“ Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God's wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], even when he is old he will not depart from it. ” Proverbs 22:6
What We Offer
At the core of our program, we offer monthly hands-on workshops exploring the S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) disciplines, from a Christian perspective, to home educated students, ages 3 to 18-years-old.
Edison Kids actively participates in the FIRST program. We currently offer teams at the FIRST Lego League Jr and FIRST Lego League levels, with plans to expand to the FIRST Tech Challenge in the near future. Sponsorship opportunites are available.
In late spring we will be hosting a S.T.E.M. Fair, where students will gain the experience of working through the scientific method and engineering design process to explore a hypothesis and present their results. Assistance will be available throughout the year.
Edison Kids is a home education resource based on the learning principles of STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. All our workshops and labs are designed and taught around the framework of the STEM philosophy, therefore multiple fields are incorporated in a lab, as opposed to studying them in isolation.
The workshops are fun, hands-on and project-based learning, not the traditional model of classroom teaching. The aim of each workshop is to introduce students to technology, skills and knowledge in a manner that will equip them for their future. Labs will be theme based with a broad spectrum of topics covered with a real-world focus. Coaches are not teachers, and lab concepts are meant to be explored together with guidance from the Coaches. Students are expected to take more of an active role in their experience.
We have incorporated STEM based competitions that allow students the opportunity to compete within these disciplines and enhance their learning. These competitions not only open the door to meeting teams from all over the world but are geared towards developing important skills such as integrity, critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills.
At the end of the year Edison Kids will host a Science Fair so students can gain the challenge of working through a science experiment from start to finish. Our aim is to ignite imaginations and inspire students.
